Coral Gold Stacker natural diamond bracelet in coral thread on a white background

What Colour Analysis Taught Me

Coral had been my colour for years before anybody handed me a swatch and explained why.

I wore it because it made me feel more awake. It had warmth, energy and just enough defiance. Put coral beside gold and natural diamonds and everything seems to come alive. I did not need a system to tell me I loved it.

Then I spent a morning with Rachel and Manina at Red Leopard and saw, very clearly, that instinct and analysis are not opposites. Sometimes analysis simply gives a name to what you have known all along.

When the mirror changed

Colour analysis is surprisingly immediate. Different drapes are placed beside your face and, without changing your hair, make-up or lighting, your reflection shifts.

With certain colours, my skin looked calmer and my eyes clearer. With others, shadows appeared that had not seemed to be there a moment earlier. It was the sort of difference I would once have blamed on tiredness, a bad night's sleep or the mirror itself.

I found it fascinating because there was nowhere for clever marketing to hide. The evidence was my own face.

Rachel and Manina brought both rigour and a wonderful eye to the process. They were not trying to replace taste with rules. They were showing me why one coral looked completely at home while another, only a little cooler or duller, did far less.

If you want the practical explanation of undertone, depth, clarity and the four seasonal families, our Journal has a fuller guide to choosing jewellery for your colour season. My experience was more personal than that. It was about seeing how quickly colour can alter the way a woman feels in her own skin.

Why this matters to jewellery

Traditional fine jewellery often begins with the metal: are you a silver woman or a gold woman? Thread gives us a much wider and more interesting question.

Which pink is yours? Is your green clear and bright, deep and olive, or cool and blue-toned? Does black make you look dramatic or simply tired? Is camel a perfect neutral, or do you come alive in something sharper?

At Caravan of Stones, the natural diamonds remain precious and light-catching, but the thread changes their mood. Coral can feel sunlit. Baby blue can make the same white sparkle seem airy. Claret brings depth. Black makes the diamonds graphic. The colour does not sit quietly in the background; it helps make the bracelet yours.

That is why our work with Red Leopard and seasonal colour makes sense to me. It is not about sorting women into four boxes. It is about giving each woman more ways to choose diamonds for herself.

Your instinct still matters

I would hate colour analysis to become one more instruction telling women they have been getting themselves wrong.

You may choose a shade because it flatters your skin. You may choose it because it reminds you of a place, works with an old coat you love or makes you happy on sight. All are perfectly good reasons.

The most useful result of my appointment was not permission to wear coral. I already had that. It was confidence in noticing the fine differences between colours, and curiosity about shades I might previously have walked past.

What this looks like in a wardrobe

The interesting part begins when the swatches go away and you have to get dressed.

I started looking at a bracelet as I would a jacket or a lipstick: not in isolation, but beside the clothes I already owned. Coral against black tailoring has warmth and nerve. Baby blue beside soft grey cashmere feels cooler and quieter. Saddle camel with ivory is tonal without disappearing. Vampire claret against midnight navy has the depth of an evening colour without requiring an evening dress.

None of those combinations is a uniform for a particular season. They are starting points. The test is whether the colour makes the diamonds, the clothes and the woman wearing them look as though they belong in the same picture.

It has also changed how I think about sleeves. A substantial bracelet needs room: a cuff rolled once, a sleeve pushed back, or a clean gap at the wrist. A finer bracelet can sit beside a watch or disappear under knitwear and flash when you move. These are small decisions, but they are the difference between owning jewellery and actually wearing it.

If you know your season, you can shop the bracelets by colour palette. If you do not, start with the colour you repeatedly reach for. That instinct is evidence too.

And colour need not be a decision made once. On pieces suitable for our rethreading service, the original diamonds can remain while the thread begins a new chapter. The bracelet can move with the woman you are becoming, rather than preserving the woman you were when you first bought it.

What I brought home

I went to Red Leopard expecting a palette. I came away thinking about identity.

Women are rarely one thing. We move through work, family, travel, reinvention and completely ordinary days when we still want to feel like ourselves. Colour can be a small but powerful way of making that visible.

My coral bracelet still feels like me. Now I understand why — but, more importantly, I still love it.
