Caron Bluestone in Talented Ladies Club
Caron Bluestone in Talented Ladies Club

Founder Caron Bluestone has given a long-form interview to Talented Ladies Club, the online magazine for women building businesses. Published on 7 August 2026 and written by Hannah Martin, it's the most detailed account yet of how Caravan of Stones was built.

From the trading floor to jewellery design

Nearly twenty years in equity sales and sales trading on the floors of European investment banks came first. Caron describes arranging work experience at an investment bank while still at school in the City of London, walking onto a trading floor and never looking back. Languages ran alongside it — French and German at university, a year studying in France, and a Russian GCSE that unexpectedly opened the door to her first job.

She left the City when she had her children, began writing about pregnancy, parenting and travel, and that became a second career as a luxury travel journalist.

The bracelet that started the brand

On a family press trip through Rajasthan, Caron had already collected around twenty brightly coloured scarves. One day she spotted more by the roadside and asked the driver to stop. A jewellery wholesaler happened to be next door.

One piece stopped her: black thread, emeralds and natural diamonds, with a slightly rock-chick feel she had never seen precious stones worn with before.

"It was essentially a luxury friendship bracelet — serious diamonds and emeralds, but relaxed enough to wear every day."

That contrast — the precious against the informal — is the idea the brand was built on.

Building it alone

Entirely self-funded, and on a shoestring. Caron built the first Shopify site herself, started the Instagram account and did nearly everything alone. Within about a month, jewellery editor Jessica Diamond found the brand and selected a bracelet for The Times LUXX Report, in a feature on luxury friendship bracelets.

From there the brand moved from curation into design: the Stackers, the Caravan charm, the sliding-lock water-resistant bracelets, specialist kumihimo threads sourced from Japan, and the brand's own spinning locks and diamond-set Caravan links.

Cotton thread and natural diamonds

Asked what makes the brand different, Caron points to the collision between the very simple and the very precious — materials at opposite ends of the spectrum, put together.

"You could have a four-carat diamond bracelet on with a T-shirt and jeans and it just works."

The interview also covers how seasonal colour analysis became central to the brand, with thread colours aligned to palettes so a piece can be chosen in a shade that genuinely suits the wearer.

Browse by colour season: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Who the brand is for

Not an age, Caron says, but a type of woman — someone who travels, likes colour, has a slightly bohemian streak, and prefers finding things for herself rather than buying what everyone else is buying. Very often she is buying the diamonds for herself, and she doesn't need the room to recognise what she's wearing.

The hardest part, and the proudest

The obstacle is money, stated plainly: diamonds, gemstones, silver, samples, production, photography, packaging and stock all have to be paid for well before any return. Almost everything the business makes goes straight back into it.

The proudest moments are The Times LUXX Report arriving so early, and more recently the shortlisting for Demi-Fine Jewellery Brand of the Year at the Professional Jeweller Awards.

But the one singled out as different in kind is the Jaipur Commitment — paying the school fees for two girls in Jaipur, in the city where the whole thing began.

Advice for anyone starting out

  • Do something you genuinely believe in — not something that merely looks like a good business idea.
  • Expect to work very hard and to keep learning: production, margins, cash flow, websites, photography, logistics.
  • Surround yourself with people who know what you don't — while keeping hold of your own judgement.
